FAQs

Stump grinding questions

01What is stump grinding?

Stump grinding uses a specialised machine to grind a tree stump down below ground level, turning it into mulch. It's the fastest, tidiest way to get rid of a stump so you can reclaim the space.

02How much does stump grinding cost in Hamilton?

It depends on the size and number of stumps, the species, and access to the site. We provide a free, no-obligation quote so you get a clear price before we start.

03How deep do you grind the stump?

We typically grind stumps to around 200-300mm below the surface, deeper if you're planning to plant or lay new lawn. Just let us know your plans and we'll grind to suit.

04Do you remove the grindings?

By default we backfill the hole with the grindings, which makes a great mulch. If you'd prefer them removed, or the hole topped with soil, just ask and we'll sort it.

05Can I plant or lay lawn where the stump was?

Once ground out and topped with soil, yes. Grindings are high in carbon, so we recommend removing some and adding topsoil if you're planting straight away, and we can advise on the day.

06Do you grind stumps you didn't remove?

Absolutely. Whether it's an old stump that's been there for years or one from a recent removal, we can grind it out for you.
